Meet Katy Perry
July 1st 2008 02:46
Forget about Britney. Let Madonna retire. Give Amy Winehouse a rest. Introducing...Katy Perry.
She's the sassy, refreshingly tell it like it is singer of such hit songs as Ur So Gay, about an over the top metrosexual ex boyfriend and her current smash I Kissed a Girl, inspired by, well, kissing girls.
Of writing songs for her album she confesses, "It's very autobiographical, and if you listen to the lyrics close enough, you can find double meanings and puns -- fun things like that. was inspired by the simple day-to-day events of my personal life in writing this record. It's a heart-on-the-sleeve Dear Diary, and I remember specific times throughout my days where I would make mental notes of something I said or some kind of catchy phrase that I overheard in someone else's conversation -- or even a headline or a story in a paper. I would all bring it back to my life, though."
Perry grew up in a strict religious family and recorded a gospel record at the age of 15 before she moved out to Los Angeles from Santa Barbara. After getting attention from singing locally, she was scooped up by super producers The Matrix and had a debut album planned for 2004 and Blender had even named her as one to watch. But plans fell through, the project was scrapped, and she was signed and dropped by record label after record label.
During that time, she was writing nearly a song a day and had more than 65 to choose from when she finally got a deal with Capitol Records. Her EP, Ur So Gay was released in 2003 and the single of the same name saw great internet and blog fanfare, with Madonna counted among the fans.
Now, her first album, One of the Boys, was finally released on June 17 and debuted at #9. I Kissed a Girl is now the #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, stealing the spot from Coldplay, and Katy's set to sing across the country this summer as part of the Vans Warped Tour.
Though she may get attention from her over the top lyrics and colorful choices in fashion, don't expect to see her joining the current throng of Hollywood trainwrecks. She tells MTV News, "I've been in L.A. for about seven years. I've seen lots of crap go down. I've been to the clubs and thought that was an important priority in my life, and that's not anymore. I'm just excited to make music. Finally, I get the chance."

Her "Zomg" style and theme neither impresses nor amuses me.
She kissed a girl? So what? Who cares?
I made out with a Male Walrus for 8 hours last week on the beach. Do I get to be a celebrity now?
If I write a song called "Lyke, ur sooo gay lolz." can I have a record deal?
Didn't think so.
Hey Kate Perry. Please find the nearest drunk driver speeding down the highway and stop his car with your face.

probably not cuz you're probably not talented like she is

I don't have talented marketing and funding like she does.
But I do have a very mediocre voice that probably wouldn't even cut it in a middle-school musical, like she does.
Who knew that people with so little singing talent could be so famous?
Yay for Mass Media.
